WEYAUWEGA/FREMONT-This week, we are revisiting one of our Community Spotlights, Meet Joe Bruesewitz founder of Brueser Construction, a trusted name in construction and concrete work around the Weyauwega Fremont Community. At its helm is Joe, the skilled craftsman and entrepreneur who has literally cemented himself into the community. From humble beginnings to managing major projects, Joe’s journey is one of dedication, craftsmanship, and hard work.

A Passion for Craftsmanship

Joe’s journey began as a teenager, working for his uncle Mike. “I started pouring concrete as a kid, and by the time I was 12, I was doing more than just wheeling it—I was hooked,” Joe shares. His love for the trade led him to work with other companies in the area, and after a stint in Austin, Texas, Joe returned to Wisconsin with a goal: to do construction his way.

“Getting licensed, insured, and finding employees was no small task,” Joe says, “but it was worth it to build something I could be proud of.”

Today, Brueser Construction offers a range of services, including concrete work, roofing, siding, snow removal, remodeling, and general construction, making it a go-to business for local projects big and small.

Strong Local Ties

For Joe, the Weyauwega-Fremont community isn’t just where he does business, it’s where his roots are. “Most of my employees are from the area, and I work with local subcontractors whenever I can,” he says. “Even though I don’t live here anymore, my wife and I spend a lot of our free time in Fremont. It’s home.”

His favorite project? The Bridge Bar in Fremont. “It turned out so much better than I imagined,” Joe says. “It’s extra rewarding because we’ve spent so many years enjoying Steve and his staff there. It’s great to give back to a business that’s been such a big part of the community.”

Joe is also proud of his contributions to Fremont Elementary School, where he donated time and materials to pour a sidewalk, relocate the flagpole, and install a Ga-Ga pit for students!

A Commitment to Excellence

At Brueser Construction, quality is non-negotiable. Joe’s hands-on approach ensures every job meets his high standards. “I’m always on-site,” he explains. “If I’m not the hardest worker there, how can I expect anyone else to work hard?”

He also values transparency, especially when it comes to managing expectations. “Concrete is durable, but even the best work can crack. That’s why it’s so important to do the job right the first time.”

Giving Back

Joe believes in paying it forward. Over the years, Brueser Construction has supported numerous local causes, including the Backyard Bash, Fremont’s Chamber of Commerce events, and the Giving Tree. “The community has been so supportive of my business,” Joe says. “It’s only right to give back whenever we can.”

Looking Ahead

Joe’s vision for the future includes relocating Brueser Construction’s main shop to Fremont and continuing to focus on quality over quantity. “I don’t want to expand too much,” he says. “Staying personally involved in every project is what sets us apart.”

Outside of work, Joe enjoys boating on the Wolf and local lakes, snowmobiling, and spending time with friends at Anchor Point Marina. He and his wife Kate recently opened their new Appleton salon, Formosity Salon and Spa, a project they built from the ground up.

Building a Legacy

Joe’s passion for construction started young, but it’s the community that keeps him inspired today. Whether it’s transforming a beloved local business, supporting schools, or simply doing a job right, Joe’s dedication, hard work, and attention to detail show on each job. For Joe, the most rewarding part of his work isn’t just creating structures—it’s making a positive impact. “Seeing homeowners happy after a job is done, knowing we’ve built something that lasts, it’s what keeps me going,” he says.
