WEYAUWEGA, WI — In an effort to protect older adults from increasingly sophisticated financial scams, the City of Weyauwega is hosting a free Scam Prevention Workshop on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, as part of Money Smart Wisconsin Week. The workshop will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in the Community Room at Weyauwega City Hall, 109 E. Main St.

The one-hour session is open to the public and aims to educate attendees on how to recognize, avoid, and respond to common scams that often target older adults. The workshop will highlight red flags to watch for, effective prevention tips, and steps individuals can take to safeguard their personal and financial information.
“We want to empower people with practical tools to stay safe,” organizers noted. “Scammers are getting more convincing, but with the right knowledge, people can avoid becoming victims.”
The event will feature Sergeant Bryan Strobusch of the Weyauwega Police Department as the guest speaker. With firsthand experience responding to local fraud cases, Sgt. Strobusch will offer valuable insight into the types of scams circulating in the area and how law enforcement is working to address them.
Hosted in partnership with Waupaca County and the UW–Madison Division of Extension, the event is part of a statewide initiative to promote financial literacy and consumer protection during Money Smart Week.
The event is free to attend, but RSVPs are encouraged. Interested individuals can reserve a spot by calling 715-258-6225.
