WAUPACA COUNTY- Law Enforcement in Waupaca County, handled a wide range of calls from Nov. 4 through Nov. 12. Incidents included a reported burglary at a vacant home for sale in the Readfield area, a family disturbance involving a juvenile with a pencil in the Manawa area, fraud and scam complaints around Waupaca, an extortion complaint in Fremont, mental health and welfare calls, traffic hazards, animal neglect concerns, and routine 911 activity. The summary below is organized by town in alphabetical order, with incidents listed by date based on the report provided.

Clintonville

• Mon, Nov. 10: County deputies assisted with a traffic stop in the Clintonville Police Department area that ended with a warning for unsafe lane use. No further incidents were noted for this time frame.


Dayton

• Sat, Nov. 8: Caller reported a woman in her fifties experiencing a psychotic episode with suicidal comments. Deputies responded. No weapons were reported, and alcohol was not believed to be a factor.


Farmington

• Sun, Nov. 9: Caller on Parfreyville Road reported that her brother was having a panic attack. Deputies were notified, and medical assistance was coordinated.


Fremont

• Wed, Nov. 5: Suspicious vehicle complaint at a Fremont address on Waupaca Street. The caller requested that a deputy check on the situation.

• Thu, Nov. 6: Resident on Rowley Street reported ongoing harassment and threats from an unknown person who said they would send out explicit photos. The caller stated this had been happening since the summer and wanted to speak with an officer.

• Sat, Nov. 8: Medical call on Castello Street for a seventy-eight-year-old male who was very dizzy in his bedroom. First responders used a lock box code to gain access and provide care.

• Sun, Nov. 9: Seasonal camper at Fremont RV Campground reported that a television was stolen from the outdoor patio area of a permanent site. The caller planned to return to secure outdoor furniture and grills.

• Mon, Nov. 10: Welfare check requested near Dollar General on Grey Goose Trail after a report of a man pushing a store cart in the roadway toward downtown Fremont.

• Wed, Nov. 12: Joint meeting of the Village of Fremont, Town of Fremont, and Town of Wolf River noted in the log as a meeting and extra patrol entry. No law enforcement issues were documented.


Iola

• During the reporting period, county deputies handled traffic and deer-related calls tied to vehicles traveling in and out of the Iola area, along with routine traffic enforcement. No major incidents were listed for this time frame.


Little Wolf and Manawa area

• Fri, Nov. 7: Caller in the Manawa area reported ongoing property and hunting-related disputes and said a man had been going on his land without permission. The caller indicated a desire to pursue charges.

• Sun, Nov. 9: Family disturbance reported in the Manawa area. The caller stated that a juvenile had a pencil and stabbed him in the hand and was being violent and punching him. Deputies responded and documented the incident.


Mukwa and New London area

• No notable calls within this date range were listed for the Town of Mukwa or Rawhide facilities in this section of the report, aside from routine traffic, deer, and service calls.


Readfield and Dale area

• Mon, Nov. 10: Burglary reported at a vacant house for sale in the Readfield area. The caller believed someone had entered through the kennel doors and reported tools missing from the garage.


Scandinavia

• No noteworthy incidents were listed for the Scandinavia area in this portion of the report, beyond routine rural patrols and traffic work.


Waupaca (city and area)

• Wed, Nov. 5: Fraud complaint from a Waupaca resident who said he had been scammed and was now receiving threats from the scammer. The caller wanted to talk with an officer.

• Wed, Nov. 5: Mental health-related call in the Weyauwega and Waupaca service area involving concerning statements about self-harm. Deputies documented the incident and coordinated follow-up.

• Wed, Nov. 5: Welfare and possible death check requested after a caller reported not hearing from a man in five days. The man had not paid rent, his car was in the driveway, and no one answered the door. Caller planned to meet officers at the residence with a key.

• Thu, Nov. 6: Caller on Oak Street in Waupaca reported that a roommate was upset, had multiple weapons, and told the caller to leave the home. Deputies went to check on the safety of everyone involved.

• Thu, Nov. 6: Alarm company reported a front door burglary alarm at Dollar General on West Fulton Street. Deputies checked the business and found it secure, with no signs of forced entry.

• Thu, Nov. 6: Caller reported possible animal mistreatment, mostly involving cats, and stated that they had photographs. The caller requested contact with an officer about the situation.

• Fri, Nov. 7: Staff at Club 161 reported concerns that someone may have used a device to take money out of a gambling machine. Staff planned to obtain a printout from the machine company and call back with more information.

• Fri, Nov. 7: Deputies assisted with a disabled vehicle near Waupaca that needed to be moved by a certain time. Follow-up was documented in the log.

• Tue, Nov. 11: Caller reported a white Yukon sport utility vehicle drifting onto the shoulder and then back into its lane in the Waupaca and Weyauwega travel corridor. Plate and vehicle description were provided.

• Tue, Nov. 11: Driver of a silver Volkswagen Passat reported a blown tire and asked for a squad car to provide lights while changing the tire along the roadway near Waupaca and Weyauwega.


Weyauwega

• Tue, Nov. 4: Caller on South Shore Drive reported that someone who cleans a nearby yard was pushing or raking leaves into the ditch in front of his property and believed this created a hazard in the roadway area.

• Tue, Nov. 4: Car versus deer crash involving a small sport utility vehicle near Weyauwega. Airbags deployed, and the vehicle was not drivable. A tow was requested.

• Wed, Nov. 5: Mental health call from an address on East Sumner Street in Weyauwega. The caller reported a person making alarming statements and requested help. Deputies followed up.

• Sun, Nov. 9: Caller near Butternut Ridge Road reported a white Dodge pickup and a red Chevrolet pickup doing donuts and racing eastbound on Highway 110.

• Tue, Nov. 11: Separate traffic complaints were logged along Highway 10 in the Weyauwega area, including a white Jeep that would not let another driver pass and a silver sport utility vehicle traveling with no taillights.


Wolf River area

• The Wolf River area did not show any major incidents in this time frame in the county log, aside from the joint board meeting entry covered under the Fremont section and normal patrol activity.


Countywide

Throughout the week and into the following days, deputies also responded to a variety of routine calls across Waupaca County, including:


• Multiple car versus deer crashes and reports of injured or deceased deer in the roadway

• Disabled vehicles with flashers on or left along the shoulder while drivers arranged tows

• Traffic hazards such as semi tire debris in the lane and deer carcasses blocking traffic

• 911 hangups and misdials tied to cell phones, automated crash detection, and pocket dials

• Extra patrols around schools, businesses, and public buildings

• Reports of animals at large, including dogs on hunting lan,d and concerns about animal care

• Fraud and scam-related complaints, including fake checks and unauthorized credit applications


These calls are typical for early November and do not always result in criminal charges, but they do require time and response from law enforcement and first responders.


Waupaca County Police Blotter Closing

The most notable calls for the Nov. 4 through Nov. 12 period include the reported burglary at a vacant property in the Readfield area, the family disturbance involving a juvenile with a pencil in the Manawa area, the harassment and extortion complaint in Fremont involving explicit photo threats, the fraud and scam reports in the Waupaca area, and several mental health and welfare checks across the county.
